Thanks for the Music, Davy

“Valleri.” Who didn’t play that song on their 45s over and over again? We are sad to bid farewell to Davy Jones of The Monkees, who died on Wednesday at 66 from a heart attack.

The Monkees were a made-for-TV band in the late 60’s that comprised of Jones, Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork. The group sold millions of records and had a series of number one hits. The Monkees’ music was written by some of the best songwriters of the day, including Carole King and Neil Diamond. As the group grew more popular, they insisted on writing their own music and playing their own instruments.

Jones continued to play with the other members of the band on-and-off for decades after they broke up in 1971. It was only last year that they got together again for a 45th reunion tour. Thanks for the music, Davy
