Balloon Ride by Ann Hayes
Jersey Shore Style is shining the spotlight on the stunning work of local artist Ann Hayes. Hayes specializes in portraying life at the Jersey Shore — everything from twisting wooden fences along the muted dunes to the bustling, colorful boardwalk. One of her newest works, entitled “Balloon Ride,” is a glicée print of the helium balloon-themed children’s ferris wheel from the Point Pleasant boardwalk.
Glicée, which Hayes utilizes frequently, is a term referring to printing fine art on high-quality ink-jet printers, allowing the artist control over the production and distribution of their images; Hayes only prints a limited number of each watercolor painting.

Hayes works exclusively in transparent watercolor, building the complex compositions with many layers of paint glazes.
A glicée print allows for the art to be reprinted with the “full color and detail of the original painting for the highest quality image.”
Prices vary depending on the medium. For instance, the orignal watercolor of “Balloon Ride,” costs just under $2000, while a glicée print is under $200. Glicée prints make Hayes’ art more accessible, while still retaining the integrity and beauty of the originals.

To view Hayes’ work, visit the Point Pleasant Boro Library during the month of May. “Beyond the Beach – Shore Scenes and More,” a collection of watercolor paintings and prints, will run until the 28th. A short reception honoring her will be held on Saturday, May 7, from 1:00-3:00pm.
