Bombers Land at Wall Airport

If you happened to see historic World War II planes flying around the area this weekend, chances are, they were carrying WWII vets for an afternoon flight. These free flights were made possible by Collings Foundation, a Massachusetts-based non-profit. Its aviation exhibit is being held at Wall Airport until Monday, Sept 5, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

At the exhibit are a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress “Nine O Nine,” the Consolidated B-24 Liberator “Witchcraft” bombers, and a P-51 Mustang fighter. The cost is $12 for adults and $6 for children under 12. World War II veterans can tour the aircraft and schedule flights at no cost.

Collings Foundation’s goal is to honor World War II veterans and educate visitors, especially younger people, about American history and heritage. With the crowd that we saw on Sunday, both young and old, they are achieving that goal!
