In this era of overabundance and impulse buying, the excess is everywhere, especially in our homes. However, thanks to the likes of Marie Kondo, an expert on living only with the things that bring you joy, many people are giving themselves permission to let go of the things that are not doing just that. In this article, we share three great resources that help to offload the burden.
Seeds of Service of Brick, NJ makes it très easy to donate, and the monies raised from the donations are put to good use. The mission of Seeds of Service is to support those in need with food pantries, community gardens, counseling, and clothing programs, to name a few.
Seeds of Service is located on Mantoloking Road, and you can drop things off at their front door 24/7. It’s trés convenient, and it’s helped our team expedite spring cleaning!
Another great charity we just learned about is Second Life Bikes in Asbury Park. It’s a community bike shop and earn-a-bike program for youths. Kids from 12-18 can work on bikes to earn hours to then buy a bike. After 15 hours of work, they get their choice of a bike.
Second Life Bikes accepts donations of old bikes — of all conditions. They find a way to make even the rusted bikes work again. And if they can’t bring it back to life, they use the parts on other bikes.
As a community bike shop, Second Life Bikes is also the place to bring your bike for a tune up. They charge a nominal rate — a fraction of the price of what one of our team members paid elsewhere.
So if your bike needs a tune-up or you need to offload an old bike (or better yet, see one curbside) bring it to Second Life Bikes located at 21 Main Street. The shop is open Tuesday-Saturday, from 10-5:30. Park on Springwood Avenue.
Lastly, a great resource for parting with things fast and easy, consider Craigslist’s free stuff section. Create an account if you don’t already have one, take a picture of whatever you want to part with, then post it to Craigslist. If your item can hold up to the elements, put your item curbside to make pick up even easier.
