Drop everything you're doing and get your tickets for Hair, now on stage at Two River Theater in Red Bank through Oct 22, 2023. You will laugh. You will cry. You'll be blown away by the beauty of the vocals and the storyline of this ever-so-relevant musical.
Hair follows a group of young Americans who dream of a future filled with harmony and understanding. The musical first hit Broadway in 1968 in the wake of the Summer of Love, and during the 20-year Vietnam War era when young men were faced with compulsory U.S. military service. They either served or faced a felony punishable by an exorbitant fine, a prison term of up to five years, or a combination of both.
It was during the time of the war protests in the U.S. that the musical Hair emerged. Thank goodness for the arts for capturing the moment in time so future generations can listen and learn. Art makes it real and relevant, and Hair is just as poignant today as it was 55 years ago, with zero modifications in the script.
At the Sunday performance we attended, we were fortunate to hear a post-show discussion with the actors, who answered questions and heard comments from the audience, several of whom saw Hair during its first Broadway run in 1968. One person was a Vietnam veteran who said he appreciated everything he saw onstage at Two River Theater.
Congratulations to the artists and production team for such a brilliant performance. It's a must-watch!
Hair is running until October 22, 2023. Get your tickets now!
