Now that summer is officially here, it’s time to check out exciting events taking place at Count Basie Theatre this season. And from the look of it, Count Basie is bringing the cool to a hot summer with famous artists gracing our shores.
On July 27, 90s alt-rock queen Alanis Morissette will perform an intimate and acoustic show. Marc Cohn and Paula Cole, two more singer-songwriters that were responsible for some big 90s hits, will hit the stage on July 30.
2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-inductee Heart has a concert on August 8, and New Jersey’s own Lauryn Hill will perform the following night. Then on August 19 there’s a concert from Lyle Lovett & His Large Band.
And for those who have an affinity for classic rock, The Happy Together Tour—which features members of The Turtles, Three Dog Night, Grand Funk Railroad, and other bands—will stop by on June 28 in what will definitely be a fantastic trip through the golden age of rock.
Singers and musicians aren’t the only performers stopping by Count Basie this summer. Actor Chazz Palminteri, best known for A Bronx Tale and The Usual Suspects, will bring his one man show to Red Bank on June 26 and 27. Spirit medium Maureen Hancock takes center stage on July 24, and comedians Andrew Dice Clay , Ron White, and Joan Rivers will bring the laughs on July 31, August 15, and August 29, respectively.
There are also some musicals to check out at the theatre. Red Bank’s own Phoenix Production’s takes us back to high school with GREASE from July 11-13 and 18-20. And the sure to be hilarious Menopause The Musical opens the following weekend on July 26.
For foodies in the area, the Appetite festival is a must attend event in August. Taking place from the 1st to the 3rd, this festival brings together Food Network star James Beard Award-winning, multi-hyphenate chef Andrew Zimmern and Emmy-winning tv personality Giada De Laurentiis with live cooking demonstrations, a wine and dine portion, a showcase for local craft beers, and much more.
