Summer Vibes

The Jersey Shore is a destination for so many, yet more often than not, the locals are not enjoying the surf and sand nearly as much as the tourists. True, locals usually don’t go where the tourists tend to flock. Not entirely because of crowds, which surely diverts some from certain attractions, but more so because when one lives at the beach, one usually doesn’t enjoy all there is to offer! But by day and night, the outdoors is calling you, and we hope that you answer because there’s too much going on at the Jersey Shore. Soak it in as often as you can!

Take Bradley Beach, for example. This summer, the town is filling the days and evenings with some fun activities, most of which are free. We are drawn to salsa dancing at the beachfront gazebo and the live bands at Riley Park on Main Street from 5-7pm on Saturdays. Bring a beach or camping chair, and enjoy an easy, breezy evening.

Asbury Park is a draw for top bands at the Stone Pony’s summer stage. Dead fans were treated to Darkstar Orchestra in July. The Pretenders are gracing the stage on August 29. The Psychedelic Furs and Squeeze are playing on September 10.

If Disco is more your speed, then get your tickets for Gimme Gimme Disco on August 25th. It’s their 5th year back at the Stone Pony.

Avon-by-the-Sea had some fun shows at the Woodland Avenue Boardwalk/Pavilion for the community. N&D Electric Duo gets everyone dancing on Tuesday nights. Catch Ragtimers on Fridays and Full of it on Saturdays for your splash of summer vibes.

Belmar holds Friday night concerts and markets with craft and food vendors at Pyanoe Plaza, 9th Avenue and Main Street.

Max Devros on Main Street in Manasquan is hosting the fabulous Ocean Avenue Stompers on August 31. This band takes you to New Orleans with just their sound. They are a treat to watch!

All year, the downtowns draw in shoppers with sidewalk sales and Ladies Nights Out. These special days are reminders to buy local, especially one-of-a-kind works of art.

Coastal Art Co-op in Point Pleasant Beach is one of our favorites. This cooperative is brimming with pieces from local artists, photographers, and artisans. Great for filling your wall with unique prints or for giving a gift certificate for the special people in your lives to pick out what they love or maybe even to take an art class there.

Use these summer months to be good to yourself and enjoy all that the Shore has to offer without breaking the bank!

Until next time, peace.
