In the Thick of Summer

The rite of passage for anyone visiting the Jersey Shore is time at the beach. Yet when you live here, visiting the beach can sometimes be a low priority… except, of course, when friends come to visit. Then, it’s a day at the beach, and it’s fun, and refreshing, and you say to yourself, “I should be at the beach more often!”

We’re here to remind you to listen that voice (the nice one) that reminds yourself to do the things that you love and enjoy. And if the beach brings you joy, take yourself there as frequently as you can, even only for a few breaths of the sea air. But careful, an hour might slip by when it feels like minutes. That’s when you know you’re onto something good. Time just flies.

Books, books and more books

Summer has always been regarded as ideal reading time. Lazy days with a good book… it’s a combination of relax time while growing the mind. A win win. Since the brain is like a muscle that responds well when worked, why not give it something to help it grow, like a fun short story or novel? The public library has so many great books at your fingertips. Borrow, return, repeat. This helps to keep your own personal library to a manageable level, while having the opportunity to read all the great books out there.

Little Women

One book to read this summer, if you haven’t read recently, is Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. This book is about life in the late 1800’s for a family of young ladies, as they navigate from childhood to adulthood. It’s as precious as precious can be, with antidotes of motherly advice throughout that never gets old.

Arts to Enjoy

Our favorite Algonquin Arts theatre is planning several performances this summer. We are hoping to catch “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.” The show opens on Friday, August 10 and runs until August 19th. Tickets are under $40, and student discounts are available.

Tip of the day: Anytime you get the chance, surround yourself with the arts. You’ll be glad you did.

Wish List

Got a wish list? Everyone should have one. Why not? It’s free, and may just help you to get the things that you truly want.

Here’s a snippet of ours this summer…

People we want to meet

Bruce Springsteen, Keanu Reeves (aim high, right?)

Food we want to eat

Cheesy garlic bread

Things we want to do

Boating/sailing

Until next time, stay cool!
